Marija Mihaljević has been working as a history teacher in primary schools around Nova Gradiška – Cernik, Adžamovci and Vrbova from 1989 to 1997. Since 1997 she has been employed at the local Museum and Gallery “Kerdić” (today Municipal Museum Nova Gradiška) at Narodno učilište “Matija Antun Relković”. In 2004 she became a senior curator. She graduated Archaeology and History at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb in 1989 and in 2013 she has defended doctoral thesis at the same faculty. Since 1999 she has been leader of the archaeological excavations of the prehistoric and medieval sites (like Rašaška / Račeša (Bobare, 2012 -)). She has been working systematically on researching, preserving and presenting the cultural heritage of Nova Gradiška and its surrounding area and also on the field surveys of Nova Gradiška area for the project Archaeological topography from prehistory to the end of 16th century. Furthermore, she has participated in several international conferences with short oral presentations and posters. Since 2004, she is the director of Municipal Museum Nova Gradiška and has been involved in renovation and adaptation of the museum building for permanent display. She is also the author of several exhibitions. Her research area includes landscape archaeology, prehistoric archaeology (Neolithic/Eneolithic), medieval archaeology with particular interest in the legacy of military orders.
