Marija Karbić has been employed at the Croatian Institute of History since 1997 and since 2007 she has been working at its Department of History of Slavonia, Syrmia and Baranya. She was promoted to the rank of research adviser in 2018. She got her master degree in history at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb, in 1996. At the Department of History at the same faculty, she defended her M. phil. dissertation in 2001 and her doctoral thesis in 2005. During her post-graduate studies in 1997, she attended Dubrovnik Workshop of Medieval Studies. Since 1997 she has been participating in numerous projects of the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport and Croatian Foundation for Science and also on the projects financed from other sources some of which were international. She has been taking part in the project of making the synthesis History of Croats of Matrix Croatica (as editor of the 3rd volume and the author of a number of texts for vols. 2 and 3). She is participant in the project International Medieval Bibliography (Institute for Medieval Studies, University of Leeds) since 2011, and external collaborator of Leksikografski zavod Miroslav Krleža in Zagreb (since 1997). She is/was a member of the Editorial board of the scholarly journals Scrinia Slavonica (since 2016), Godišnjak Njemačke zajednice (since 2010), and Povijesni zbornik (2011-2012). Marija Karbić participated in organisation of several scholarly conferences. Since 2005, she participated as external teaching associate in teaching on University level (at Centre for Croatian Studies and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of University of Zagreb, and Catholic University of Croatia) and also supervise PhD thesis. She was promoted to the rank of associate professor in March 2018. Her research interest is history of nobility and history of urban settlements and researching the area of Sava and Drava interamnium in the Middle Ages.
