Tatjana Tkalčec has been employed at the Institute of Archaeology (Zagreb) since 2000, and since 2015 she has been a senior scientific associate. She graduated Archaeology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb (1997) where she finished her MA Thesis (2004) and PhD Thesis (2008) as well, all with the topics from the field of mediaeval archaeology. As an external associate professor, she participates in university teaching and mentoring graduate thesis and doctoral dissertations. Since 2008, she has held consultations and teaching at the postgraduate doctoral study in Archaeology at the University of Zagreb and since 2009 a number of courses at the Graduate study of Archaeology. She was the leader of numerous archaeological and archaeological-conservation research projects, mostly of medieval archaeological sites. As a leader, co-leader or team member, she has participated in over 200 archaeological excavations and field surveys. She has been participating as a researcher on a numerous scientific projects financed by Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport and Croatian Foundation for Science. She is an active member of the editorial board of several scientific journals and edited volumes and also the initiator and editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Cris. Her research interests are: medieval fortifications, archaeological heritage of the medieval elite and various aspects of everyday life of the medieval man.
